Prof. Jinxia Wang Won the NSFC’s Major International Joint Research Project Funding
Recently, National Natural Sciences Foundation of China (NSFC) has approved one Major International Joint Research Project on Assessing long term and short term impacts of climate change on food security and adaptation policies in China, a bilateral cooperation project between NSFC and CGIAR. Led by Prof. Jinxia Wang, Deputy Director of the Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy (CCAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the partner of this project is International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Based on the large scale field surveys, the overall goal of this proposed research is to create original knowledge about the likely direct and indirect consequences of climate change (including both the long term change of average climate trend and the occurance of extreme weather events) on food security. In addition, the constraints and cost/benefit of adaptive measures in the vulnerable rural areas will also be explored. Finally, one comprehensive decision support system on simulating the impacts and adaptation of climate change and the public platform of information sharing will also be established, and policy recommendations to policy makers on how to improve the adaptation capacities will be provided in China.
