Graduate seminar was held at Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy (CCAP)
CCAP’ s graduate seminar was successfully held On July 20, 2012. Sun Dingqiang from the Agricultural and Resource Economics Department, University of California, Davis was specially invited to give a lecture. Sun addressed issues related to "Liquidity Constraints and Postharvest Selling Behavior: Evidence from China's Maize Farmers”. CCAP’ s students and assistants participated in this seminar.
Based on existing research literatures, Sun firstly briefly gave a basic theoretical analysis framework to explore the impact mechanism of the cash flow constraints on the behavior of farmers’ sale of crop products and the potential welfare losses. He then introduced the survey data collected from four provinces in China, and discussed in detail the differences of the farmers of different income groups in household characteristics, lending practices, sales of maize products. After that, he took an empirical test on the relationship between household liquidity constraints and farmers' maize selling behavior. Finally, Sun illustrated the research findings and policy implications. After his presentation, Sun took questions from the audience.
