CCAP conducted the survey on the production of Bt Cotton

In order to better understand the production and marketing of Bt cotton, we conducted survey to more than 320 households from fixed-pointed survey sites in four provinces: Hebei, Shandong, Anhui and Henan this July. The survey has been coordinated by local officers and village leaders. Even during the hot summer, the enumerators from other universities and our center conducted face-to-face interview to farmers to collect the detailed information on inputs with special attention to pesticide, the employment history of farmers, etc.In the purpose of generating innovation trees on the adoption of Bt cotton in China, we also organize discussion among focus groups. The participants in focus groups include the farmers who is the leading in Bt cotton production in the village, seed dealers within a village, technicians and farmers who adopted Bt cotton technology later. There are burning debates on several questions. For example, what is the functioning of local government in extending GM technology?
