Professor Jikun Huang, Director of CCAP, Leads a Delegation to Attend the 28th International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) Conference

During August 18-24, 2012, Professor Jikun Huang, Director of CCAP leads a delegation of 16 faculty members and graduate students to attend the 28th International Agricultural Economists Assembly (IAAE) conference. The event, carrying a theme of "The Global Bio-Economy”, was held in Iguacu, Brazil. The conference incorporated a total of 25 papers from CCAP, of which 17 oral presentations and 8 posters.Professor Huang was invited to talk at two invited panels. At one invited panel on “Climate Change and the Bio-Economy”, he talked about climate change and China’s agricultural sector: impacts, mitigation and adaptation. At another invited panel on “Biofuels, Policies and Poverty,” he talked about how biofuel policies affect poverty in China.
Professor Linxiu Zhang, Deputy Director of CCAP, along with Professor Scott Rozelle, the chairman of the CCAP Academic Advisory Committee, was invited to talk to the plenary session on “Resource Constraints for the Bio-Economy”. Their presentation, titled “Reducing Human Capital Constraints in the Bio-Economy: Evidence from Experiments,” focused on the importance of enhancing human capital for China to overcome the middle-income trap.
Professor Jinxia Wang, Deputy Director of CCAP, gave a talk introducing her recent research on spatial heterogeneity in drought risk and adoption of drought resistant crop varieties in northern China.
Other 13 faculty member and graduate student delegates also presented at various parallel sessions and invited panels during this conference. They are Professors Luping Li, Huanguang Qiu, Renfu Luo, Xiaobing Wang, Chengfang Liu, Junfei Bai, Xiangping Jia, Hongmei Yi; Post-doctor Cheng Xiang; Senior research assistants Huang Chen, and Kaixing Huang; as well as graduate students Hao Luan, and Wenqian Yang.
