New Rural Development Institute, Peking University Successfully Held the Fifth Meeting of the First Governing Council

On the morning of February 19, 2023, the fifth meeting of the first council of  New Rural Development  Institute, Peking University(hereinafter referred to as "NRDI") was successfully held at Peking University. More than 30 people attended the meeting, including Wang Jie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NRDI and former Vice President of Peking University, Du Ying, former Executive Director and former Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, other members of the Board of Directors, representatives of the governing units, and some of the researchers of  NRDI. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Wang Jie.

The meeting firstly focused on the report of Prof. Ji-Kun Huang, President of NRDI, on the progress of NRDI's work in 2022 and its future work plan. In the report, Prof. Huang Jikun introduced the work of NRDI from the basic situation, scientific research projects, research progress, platform + base, policy impact, academic exchanges, etc., and proposed that during the period of 2023 to 2025, NRDI will focus on agricultural development, urban-rural integration, resources and environment to carry out basic and prospective research, and at the same time, NRDI will further strengthen the internal and external exchanges and cooperation, and do a good job of policy-making advisory services and external publicity. At the same time, NRDI will further strengthen communication and cooperation within and outside the university, and do a good job in decision-making advisory services and external publicity.

After considering the report, the Council fully affirmed the achievements of the NRDI. Du Ying, the former executive director, affirmed the theoretical and practical working style of the NRDI team and the research methodology of always adhering to the combination of theory (fundamental), strategy (forward-looking) and countermeasures (problem-solving). Other council members also agreed that, overcoming the epidemic, NRDI has made great achievements in the past year in comprehensive development in the areas of think tank construction, policy consultation, international influence and academic exchanges, and played an important role in food security guarantee and agricultural and rural development policies.

        Meanwhile, the councilors also had a warm discussion on the recent work plan and future development direction of NRDI, and put forward valuable construction suggestions on the key areas of policy research, database platform construction and talent cultivation of NRDI in the next stage. Finally, the council members exchanged views on the composition of the council and the formation of the next council, suggesting that the next council should make appropriate adjustments on the basis of maintaining relative stability.
